Bay Point Billfish 25th Invitational Tournament
A celebration 25 years in the making is set to attract leading anglers and their families to the gulf coast, July 9-13, 2008. Catch-and-release billfish action on the giant Jumbotron screen, exciting weigh in events for tuna, dolphin and wahoo, and all the dockside activities Bay Point Resort has become known for promises to make this year's event the biggest ever. Helping to make the anniversary even more special are the returning sponsors including Viking Yachts, Galati Yacht Sales and The St. Joe Company, which partnered to present the 2007 event with a million dollar plus payout. The popular tournament has announced it is taking the lead in gulf coast tournament fishing with full release in the billfish category. The catch and release billfish format is verified by video recording and was a hit last year with the action projected onto the giant screen for the crowds. In addition, 2007 tournament directors Scott Burt and Chris Miller will again lead the historic event with the goal of continuing the Bay Point Invitational as the angler's favorite on the gulf coast. "The teams agree there's really nothing like the Bay Point Invitational, from the excitement of the crowds to the outstanding venue and on site amenities of Bay Point Resort with the spa, dining, Nicklaus golf course and more," says Scott Burt, Tournament Director. "Anglers know this event for big fish and big parties. A state record was set in our 2001 tournament with a 1,046 lb Blue Marlin and we are gearing up for another memorable event in this year's 25th Anniversary." The nearly weeklong schedule begins with the arrival of teams on Tuesday and Wednesday and a private kick-off party overlooking the lagoon, as entertainment gets underway Wednesday on the main stage of Marina Village. Continuing events include: Thursday morning golf tournament, 8:30AM, on the Nicklaus course. Thursday afternoon's exciting "Dock Walk" as crowds get up close to watch teams prepare baits and tackle, then depart at the 8:30PM cannon signal with a backdrop of fireworks over the lagoon. Friday night brings a guaranteed payout of $10,000 for the heaviest fish weighed and $5,000 for the second place early catch brought in to a celebration of food & entertainment in Marina Village. Saturday the majority of the teams return with live TV coverage and exciting video action on the Jumbotron, with crowds of thousands participating in the dockside festivities. "It was really something to see last year, with every head staring at video hook up action from deep blue, almost purple water," says Director Chris Miller. "As the team grabs the fish's bill, removes the hook and sees that tail kick the water... the crowd really goes wild." For tournament details, or to download an application, visit www.baypointbillfish.com, or call Scott Burt at 850-527-2882 for more information. The tournament web site also features Marriott Bay Point Resort lodging packages with resort amenities and area family vacation information.

Grand Lagoon National, Americ's Fishing Tournament
Grand Lagoon National America's Saltwater Fishing Tournament August 20-24, 2008 Hosted By: Boatyard Marina Boatyard Restaurant Capt. Anderson’s Pier Capt. Anderson’s Restaurant Lighthouse Marina and Boatyard Pirates Cove Marina Treasure Island Marina The Treasure Ship Contact information: Bill Spann, Tournament Chairman Phone: 850-522-0955 Email: info@grandlagoonnational.com Media & Press Materials: Click Here for Press Release Download Hi-Res Logo (332kb) “It’s going to be the grandest fishing tournament in the United States,” that is according to the owners of businesses which dot the shores of the Grand Lagoon at Panama City Beach. It may not be an idle boast. The Grand Lagoon has long been one of Florida’s favorite fishing destinations and the organizers of the Grand Lagoon National have a world of tournament experience. They are betting that what will make this the tournament America will be talking about is the conglomerate of facilities committed to hosting the tournament, the unique and inclusive format they intend to follow and, of course, the legendary fishing waters of the Florida Panhandle. The Grand Lagoon National, scheduled for August 20-24, 2008, is really six tournaments in one. Organizers are convinced that the unique format will appeal to virtually every kind of saltwater fishing enthusiast. A Big Game division, crafted to attract million dollar yachts and experienced competitors, will hunt for the elusive giant Blue Marlin, the Swordfish and the large Tuna that populate the Gulf’s summer waters. A Catch and Release category will also be provided for Blue Marlin, White Marlin, Swordfish and Sailfish. An Offshore Division will fish for Wahoo, Dolphin, Red Snapper, Grouper and Amberjack. An Inshore Division, limited to boats of twenty-nine feet in length or less, will fish for Red Snapper, Grouper, Amberjack and King Mackerel. To appeal to devotees of the Bay, a Flats Division will feature a Spanish Mackerel, Trout and Redfish competition. For visitors to the beach, families and those who love to bottom fish, a Party Boat Division will fish for Red Snapper, Grouper and Amberjack and will host a special Junior Anglers’ contest. What is being billed as “America’s Saltwater Fishing Tournament” will even include a special Dive Division for those who like to fish below the waters of the Gulf. Bill Spann, who founded and for twenty-three years served as Chairman of one of the nation’s most recognized fishing tournaments, the Bay Point Annual Billfish Invitational, will serve as Tournament Chairman of the new event and is convinced that it will quickly establish itself as a tournament no serious saltwater enthusiast will want to miss. “The breadth of facilities, quality of fishing and the inclusiveness of this format justify the name “Grand Lagoon National”. Don’t forget the party, something Bill Spann prides himself on when looking back at all of the Bay Point tournaments. The Tournament Committee promises everything from boat walks passing million dollar yachts decked out to fish, the giant firework displays, big name entertainment, a family entertainment center, sponsors’ village, in-water Grand Lagoon tournament taxis, tournament cruises, huge kickoff parties and parades and the best food vendors at any fishing tournament anywhere - bar none. In all, Spann is planning to hand out $1 million to winners, to hosting well over a thousand anglers, hundreds of boats and onshore crowds in the tens of thousands. “We have a lot of planning and work to do. But the commitments are there, the fish are swimming and the water gets warmer every day. I believe that we are not only going to be successful, I believe we will be successful enough in our first year to make a good contribution to local charities and to establish a tournament that will be here for years to come.”
